Instrument 5 Phase 1

Title

Psychomotor Dimension Assessment

Psychomotor assessment is important in illustrating child/youth development and may, in some circumstances, influence social and cognitive integration. The following scale provides a basic overview of the student's condition. The main objective is to observe general and fine motor skills of the student.

How to use it

  1. Begin by explaining the objectives of the assessment to the student and ask whether he/she agrees with its use (keep ethical considerations in mind and request informed consent)

  2. We advise observing the listed indicators on the scale jointly with the sport’s teacher.

  3. The checklist will be used by the teacher(s), based on the situations suggested in the school context (inside the classroom and playground, or other situations). Do not create specific situations/activities to observe/evaluate.

  4. The results are analyzed in terms of frequency and intensity

What to do next

If results show light difficulties, teachers do/intervene with these adolescents as they do with others. Perceiving weaknesses, intervening and promoting these motor or psychomotor skills or abilities.

If results show severe difficulties, teachers should contact parents to inform them of the concerns and suggest a more thorough evaluation.

If language problems arise when contacting parents, teachers should always contact local support centres and ask for a translator.
